Tigers pitcher Drew Anderson is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Friday’s spring training games.
Other top players Friday include Rafael Marchán of the Phillies, Yohel Pozo of the Cardinals, Nathan Lukes of the Blue Jays and Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams.
Player of the Day: Drew Anderson, Tigers
Anderson struck out four over 3 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings, allowing no walks, in the 11-3 win over the Red Sox.
Anderson, 31, returns to the Tigers organization after a global odyssey. Since earning 1.0 Box-Toppers point with the Rangers in 2021, he spent two seasons with Japan’s Hiroshima Carp (2022–2023). After a brief minor league stint with Detroit and a dominant finish to 2024 in Korea’s KBO League, he parlayed a stellar 2025 KBO season (2.25 ERA) into a one-year, $7 million major league contract this December.
NL Player of the Day: Rafael Marchán, Phillies
Marchán hit two doubles and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 14-10 win over the Pirates.
Marchán earned 3.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, ninth among National League catchers.
Because Marchán takes the overall NL Player of the Day honors, there is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Friday.
AL Batter of the Day: Nathan Lukes, Blue Jays
Lukes hit a grand slam and went 1-for-2, scoring once and driving in four runs, in the 9-2 win over the Pirates.
Lukes earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 51st among American League outfielders.
Notable
Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams has the most 2025 Box-Toppers points among Friday’s Player of the Game winners.
Williams (3.2IP 4H 2R ER 0BB 5K ND in the 5-3 win over the Angels) enters 2026 coming off a breakout 2025 campaign where he earned 11.7 Box-Toppers points, ranking 16th among all American League pitchers.
Also notable
Yohel Pozo of the Cardinals won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for the second time in the 2026 spring training season.
Pozo (2B 2-2 2R 2BI in the 10-2 win over the Orioles) also earned Player of the Game honors Monday (1-2 R 0BI in the 3-2 win over the Marlins).
Friday’s games
In 16 spring training games between two Major League teams Friday:
13 Games: Won by player with previous regular-season Box-Toppers points (see table).
3 Games: Won by players with 0.0 career regular-season Box-Toppers points.
(Note: This excludes all games involving World Baseball Classic teams.)
Friday’s Scoring Summary
No official Box-Toppers points are awarded for preseason exhibition games. Had this been the regular season, points would have been awarded as follows:
Drew Anderson, Tigers: 2.0 points (Player of the Day)
Rafael Marchán, Phillies: 1.7 points (NL Player of the Day)
Nathan Lukes, Blue Jays: 1.5 points (AL Batter of the Day)
All other winners, listed in the chart: 1.0 point
