Player of the Day
Snell struck out 10 over five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks, in the 9-1 win over the Blue Jays.
Snell earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 309th among all players, 82nd among National League pitchers.
Snell has now earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons with his first points of the 2025 season. He earned his first points in 2016 with the Rays and now has 106.8 career points, 78th-most among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995.
With his 2.0 points Saturday, Snell passes five players on the “all-time” career points list—Scott Kazmir (105.1), Aramis Ramirez (105.8), Frank Thomas (106.2), Francisco Liriano (106.2) and James Shields (106.4). (It should be noted that Thomas began his career in 1990, prior to the start of Box-Toppers tracking. If his entire career had been tracked, Box-Toppers projects he would have about 146 career points).
Snell now trails 77th-ranked player Lance Berkman (108.1). Snell ranks 14th among active, signed players in career points, ninth among active NL pitchers.
Snell’s best season was 2018 with the Rays, when he had 27.2 Box-Toppers points, first among all players. In 2024, he had 15.7 points with the Giants, seventh overall and fifth among NL pitchers.
American League Player of the Day
Shea Langeliers of the Athletics homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 11-3 win over the Orioles.
Langeliers earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 13th among AL batters.
Notable
Langeliers recorded a +4.0 Box-Toppers game score, the same as another AL batter who won Player of the Game honors Saturday—Taylor Ward of the Angels (HR 2B 3-4 2R 3BI in the 7-4 win over the Tigers). Though they both had the same game score and similar line scores, Langeliers beat Ward for AL Player of the Day honors on a tiebreaker with more walks—one vs. zero.
Notably, Ward has the most 2025 Box-Toppers points among Saturday’s 16 Player of the Game winners.
Ward earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 7.5 for the season, 56th among all players and fifth among AL batters.
National League Batter of the Day
Marcell Ozuna of the Braves hit two home runs, including a three-run homer, in the 8-6 win over the Marlins. Ozuna went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs.
Ozuna earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 15th among NL batters.
American League Batter of the Day
There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Saturday because the overall AL Player of the Day is batter Shea Langeliers.
Debut
Braves pitcher Hurston Waldrep made his Box-Toppers debut Saturday with his first career Player of the Game honor.
Waldrep (6IP 4H R BB 6K W in the 7-1 win over the Marlins) made his Major League debut June 9, 2024, and was playing in his fourth career game.
Scoring
Snell earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.
Langeliers earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day.
Ozuna earns 1.5 points for being NL Batter of the Day.
All of Saturday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
