López struck out six over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the 7-0 win over the Brewers.

López earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.0 for the season, 18th among all players and 12th among AL pitchers.

National League Player of the Day

Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler (6IP 3H 0R BB 6K W in the 5-2 win over the Pirates) earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points, giving him 9.1 for the season, extending his lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings.

He now leads over second-place player, Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo (7.0 points). He leads NL pitchers over second-place Nick Pivetta of the Padres (6.0 points).

Wheeler also now has 114.1 career Box-Toppers points, rising to 64th among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With his 1.7 points Saturday, he passes five players on the “all-time” career points list—Kevin Brown (112.8), Sammy Sosa (113.2), Dan Haren (113.2), Chris Carpenter (113.3) and Orioles pitcher Charlie Morton (113.5).

(Both Brown and Sosa made their Major League debuts prior to the start of Box-Toppers tracking, so would likely have more points if their entire careers were tracked. Box-Toppers estimates that Brown would have about 164 career points if his entire career from 1986 were tracked and that Sosa would have about 134 points if his entire career from 1989 were tracked.)

Wheeler trails 63rd-ranked player Carlos Carrasco, now pitching for the Yankees in the minor leagues, with 114.2 career points.

Wheeler ranks 11th among active, signed players in career points, seventh among active NL pitchers.

Wheeler led players in Box-Toppers points in 2024 with 21.4.

Wheeler had a +8.0 Box-Toppers game score Saturday, the same as Pablo López and both had similar line scores. However, López just edged Wheeler for overall Player of the Day honors because he gave up fewer hits—two vs. three.

National League Player of the Day is Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler.

National League Batter of the Day

Jordan Beck of the Rockies (2HR 3B 3-5 4R 3BI in the 14-12 win over the Diamondbacks) earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points, his first points of the season.

This was Beck’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Beck made his Major League debut April 30, 2024, and was playing in his 90th career game.

American League Batter of the Day

Logan O'Hoppe of the Angels (HR 2-5 R 5BI in the 11-9 win over the Dodgers) earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points, giving him 2.5 for the season, 16th among AL batters.

Streak

Joc Pederson of the Rangers has now earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons after earning his first Player of the Game honor of 2025 Saturday.

Pederson (HR 1-2 R 2BI in the 5-1 win over the Astros) earned his first Box-Toppers points in 2016 with the Dodgers and now has 38.9 career points, 15th among active AL batters.

In 2024, he earned 6.4 points with the Diamondbacks, 14th among NL batters, his best season.

Scoring

  • López earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.

  • Wheeler earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day.

  • Beck and O’Hoppe each earn 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
