Padres pitcher Michael Wacha is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Saturday, Rays pitcher Jeffrey Springs rises to first place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning American League Player of the Day honors.

Plus, three players extended streaks of 10 or more seasons earning Box-Toppers points after each earned Player of the Game honors Saturday. Royals closing pitcher Aroldis Chapman has now earned points in 14 straight season, Mike Trout of the Angels has now earned points in 13 straight seasons and Eugenio Suarez of the Mariners has now earned points in 10 straight seasons.

Player of the Day—Wacha struck out 10 over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 4-1 win over the Braves.

Wacha earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season and now is 18th in season player rankings.

Rays pitcher Jeffrey Springs is Saturday’s Box-Toppers AL Player of the Day.

American League Player of the Day—Rays pitcher Jeffrey Springs struck out seven over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks, in the 11-0 win over the Athletics.

Springs earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, rising to first place in season player rankings, passing previous leader Bryan Reynolds of the Pirates (3.7), who only took the lead Friday. Through Springs has the same Box-Toppers point total as Reynolds and Marlins pitcher Jesus Luzardo, Springs ranks ahead because he has the most 2022 Box-Toppers points among the three—10.7 vs. Reynolds (4.0) and Luzardo (4.0).

Stone Garrett of the Nationals is Saturday’s Box-Toppers NL Batter of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day—Stone Garrett of the Nationals hit a two-run homer and two doubles in the 7-6 win over the Rockies. Garrett went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five runs.

This was Garrett’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Garrett made his Major League debut Aug. 17, 2022, and was playing in his 29th career game.

Kyle Farmer of the Twins is Saturday’s Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Kyle Farmer of the Twins hit a three-run homer, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 9-6 win over the Astros.

Rafael Devers of the Red Sox is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Saturday’s win over the Tigers.

Rankings—Rafael Devers of the Red Sox rises to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.

Devers (2HR 2-4 2R 5BI in the 14-5 win over the Tigers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 2.5 for the season.

Royals closing pitcher Aroldis Chapman is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Saturday’s win over the Giants.

Streak—Royals closing pitcher Aroldis Chapman has now earned Box-Toppers points in 14 straight seasons after earning his first Player of the Game honor of 2023 Saturday.

Chapman (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K Sv in the 6-5 win over the Giants) earned his first Box-Toppers point in 2010 with the Reds and has 63.1 career points, second among active AL closing pitchers, behind Ian Kennedy of the Rangers (89.2), who earned all but 13.7 points in his career as a starting pitcher.

Chapman’s best season was 2012 with the Reds when he had 14.0 Box-Toppers points, second among NL closers, behind Craig Kimbrel of the Braves (15.0). Chapman led NL closers with the Reds in 2015 with 8.0 points.
