This is the first time since 2015 that the Box-Toppers points leader among pitchers in both leagues also won both Cy Young Awards. That year, Jake Arrieta of the Cubs won in the NL (leading NL pitchers with 29.1 Box-Toppers points) and Dallas Keuchel of the Astros won in the AL (leading AL pitchers with 21.4 points).

Of the 11 AL pitchers to receive Cy Young votes, 10 of them are among the top 20 AL pitchers in 2020 Box-Toppers points. The only one outside the top 20—very far outside the top 20—is Dallas Keuchel of the White Sox, who ranks 87th among AL pitchers with just 1.0 Box-Toppers point. Keuchel earned the 1.0 point as Player of the Game Sept. 6. He made 11 starts in 2020 and appeared in seven White Sox wins, but in those other seven games he was beaten out by a teammate for Player of the Game honors. Keuchel won the AL Cy Young in 2015 with the Astros.
Of the 12 NL pitchers to receive Cy Young votes, 10 of them are among the top 13 NL pitchers in 2020 Box-Toppers points. Two players who earned only 1.0 Box-Toppers point in 2020 received votes:
Zack Wheeler of the Phillies, 12th in NL Cy Young voting and 69th among NL pitchers in 2020 Box-Toppers points.
Devin Williams of the Brewers, eighth in NL Cy Young voting and 124th among NL pitchers in 2020 Box-Toppers points. (Though both Wheeler and Williams earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point each in 2020, Wheeler ranks higher because he had more 2019 Box-Toppers points—9.0 vs. 0.0.)

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
