Anthony Rendon of the Nationals is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Tuesday’s World Series Game 6.

The Washington Nationals win 7-2, tying the best-of-seven series with the Houston Astros at 3-3 and forcing Game 7 Wednesday.

Rendon homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring once and driving in five runs.

Rendon earned 5.0 Box-Toppers points during the regular season, 169th among all players, 32nd among National League batters and ninth among NL third basemen.

It is the second time this postseason Rendon has earned Player of the Game honors. He was also top player in the NL Division Series Game 5 win over the Dodgers on Oct. 9. Here are the players who have won Player of the Game honors more than once in the 2019 postseason and the number of times they’ve done it:

Rendon had a Box-Toppers game score Tuesday of +5.0, highest among Nationals players. He narrowly beat Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg as Player of the Game. Strasburg had a Box-Toppers game score of +4.1 (8.1IP 5H 2R 2BB 7K W).

Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander had a Box-Toppers game score of -6.0 (5IP 5H 3R 3BB 3K L).

The series concludes with Game 7 Wednesday in Houston.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

World Series Game 7, Nationals at Astros, 3-3

Wednesday’s starting pitchers:

Nationals—Max Scherzer, 15.4 Box-Toppers points in 2019, 15th among all players, ninth among NL pitchers and third among Nationals pitchers.

Scherzer was scheduled to start Game 5 Sunday in Washington but was a late scratch with neck and back issues.

Scherzer has earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors twice in five postseason appearances—in the NL Division Series Game 4 win against the Dodgers on Oct. 7 and in the NL Championship Game 2 win against the Cardinals on Oct. 12. He also  started in the NL Wild Card Game against the Brewers, pitched in relief in NLDS Game 2 against the Dodgers and started in the World Series Game 1 win over the Astros on Oct. 22.

Astros—Zack Greinke, 17.9 Box-Toppers points, seventh among all players, fifth among AL pitchers.

Greinke has not earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in his four previous 2019 postseason appearances. On Oct. 7, he appeared in the American League Division Series Game 3 loss to the Rays. On Oct. 12, he appeared in the AL Championship Series Game 1 loss to the Yankees. On Oct. 17, he appeared in the ALCS Game 4 win over the Yankees. On Oct. 25, he appeared in the World Series Game 3 win over the Nationals.

In addition to both starters being among the top 15 players in 2019 Box-Toppers points, both are also among the top 10 in career Box-Toppers points since 1995 (when Box-Toppers tracking began). Greinke has 207.1 career Box-Toppers points, fourth-most since 1995 and second among active players (behind Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw’s 227.5). Scherzer has 197.2 career Box-Toppers points, eighth-most since 1995 and sixth among active players.
