Also Wednesday, Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings and becomes the second player this season with 10 or more Box-Toppers points. Plus, Braves pitcher Julio Teheran rises to ninth place in season player rankings Wednesday after earning National League Player of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Carrasco struck out 14 in a complete game, allowing two runs, five hits and one walk, in the 6-2 win over the Brewers.

Carrasco earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.7 for the season.

National League Player of the Day—Braves pitcher Julio Teheran struck out seven over six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 5-2 win over the Rays.

Teheran earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, rising to ninth in Box-Toppers season player rankings. He ranks third among NL pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day—Anthony Rizzo of the Cubs hit a three-run homer and two doubles, going 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 13-4 win over the Marlins.

This is Rizzo’s first Player of the Game honor of 2018. He led NL batters in Box-Toppers points in 2017 with 15.5.

American League Batter of the Day—Aaron Judge of the Yankees homered and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 9-6 win over the Red Sox.

Rankings—Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Cole (6IP 4H R 3BB 9K W in the 4-1 win over the Athletics) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.0 for the season, rising from third to second in player rankings. He also ranks second among AL pitchers, behind overall leader, Yankees pitcher Luis Severino (10.7).

Cole also becomes the second player in 2018 with 10.0 or more Box-Toppers points and also becomes the second player in two days to reach that milestone (Severino did it Tuesday). This is the second season Cole has reached 10.0 Box-Toppers points—in 2015, he had 19.0 points with the Pirates, ranked ninth overall that season.

Debut—Angels pitcher Jaime Barria made his Box-Toppers debut Wednesday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

Barria (5.1IP 5H 0R BB 7K W in the 8-0 win over the Rockies) made his Major League debut April 11 and was playing in his fourth career game. He is the 3,964th player to debut in Box-Toppers since record keeping began in 1995.
