Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Saturday, Phillies pitcher Jesús Luzardo climbs to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.
Other Player of the Game winners Saturday include Pirates pitcher Jared Jones, TJ Rumfield of the Rockies and Wilyer Abreu of the Red Sox.
Player of the Day: Tarik Skubal, Tigers
Skubal struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and no walks, in the 7-0 win over the Angels.
Skubal earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.7 for the season, 25th among all players and 11th among American League pitchers.
NL Player of the Day: Jared Jones, Pirates
Jones struck out nine over five innings, allowing one run, three hits and one walk, in the 7-1 win over the Guardians.
Jones earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points as National League Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, 50th among NL pitchers.
NL Batter of the Day: TJ Rumfield, Rockies
Rumfield homered and went 4-for-5, scoring once and driving in four runs, in the 10-3 win over the Reds.
This was Rumfield’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Rumfield made his Major League debut March 27 and was playing in his 97th career game.
AL Batter of the Day: Wilyer Abreu, Red Sox
Abreu hit two home runs and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 7-6 win over the Rays.
This was the second straight day Abreu won AL Batter of the Day honors. On Friday, he hit two home runs and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 5-3 win over the Rays. He earned 1.5 Box-Toppers points each day, bringing his season total to 4.5, 11th among AL batters.
