Rankings

Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes rises from fourth to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Monday.

Skenes (6IP 5H 2R BB 8K ND in the 5-2 win over the Blue Jays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 17.1 for the season. He passes Padres pitcher Nick Pivetta (16.7) in player rankings and now ranks behind Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler (20.1 points) and Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal (17.4 points). Skenes rises to second among NL pitchers, 3.0 points behind Wheeler.

It would take Skenes at least two starts (earning a maximum of 2.0 points in each start) to pass Wheeler for the lead overall and among NL pitchers. Wheeler underwent surgery on Monday to remove a blood clot from his right upper arm. He is on the 15-day injured list, but the team has indicated his timetable for return is uncertain.

Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta now has 11.7 Box-Toppers points in 2025—13th overall and seventh among NL pitchers.

Nathaniel Lowe, 30, signed by #RedSox (after release from #Nationals). His 5.5 Box-Toppers points in 2025 earned with WSH is now 18th among AL batters, 3rd among AL 1Bs & 3rd among all BOS batters: 1—Wilyer Abreu 8.5 2—Trevor Story 8.0 3—Lowe 5.5 4—Ceddanne Rafaela 4.5

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
