Yankees pass Tigers to lead Box-Toppers team rankings; Phillies pass Dodgers in NL

The New York Yankees rise to lead Box-Toppers team rankings this week, passing last week’s leader, the Detroit Tigers.

Here are Box-Toppers 2025 team rankings through games of Thursday, May 29. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 23 to May 29. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of May 22.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Phillies rise to lead National League teams and the Tampa Bay Rays are the hottest team of the week.

Yankees lead

Yankees players have accumulated 45.9 Box-Toppers points this season, including 7.0 in the past week, rising from fourth to first place overall, passing the Tigers, who fall to third place with 44.9 points, picking up 5.0 points in the past week. The Yankees rank ahead of the second-place team, the Philadelphia Phillies (45.2) by 0.7 points.

The Yankees also rise to lead American League teams  ahead of the Tigers.

The Yankees have baseball’s third-best winning percentage (.636), behind the Tigers (.649) and the Phillies (.643).

The Yankees are led by pitcher Carlos Rodón (8.7 Box-Toppers points, third among all players and first among AL pitchers). Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (3.5 points, seventh among AL batters). Seventeen different Yankees players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

Phillies lead NL teams

The Phillies rise from third to second place overall with 45.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.2 in the past week and pass the Dodgers, who have led NL teams for the past four weeks. The Dodgers now have 42.6 points and fall from second to fourth overall, second among NL teams.

The Phillies have the NL’s best winning percentage (.643) and are led by pitcher Zack Wheeler (11.1 Box-Toppers points, first overall). Phillies top batter is Kyle Schwarber (3.0 points, 15th among NL batters). Eighteen different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Hottest team: Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.7 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team. The Rays now have 31.2 Box-Toppers points for the season, rising from 24th to 21st place overall.

Biggest jump: Cardinals, Brewers

The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers each rose five spots in Box-Toppers team rankings, tied for the biggest jump among all teams.

  • The Cardinals rose from 12th to seventh place overall with 37.7 points, picking up 5.0 in the past week.

  • The Brewers rose from 18th to 13th place overall with 34.2 points, picking up 4.0 in the past week.

Biggest fall: Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks fell from 10th to 15th place overall with 34.1 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week. That five-spot fall was biggest among all teams this week.

Last place: Rockies

The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the seventh straight week with 10.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
