Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes is Thursday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Thursday, White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease becomes the third player this season to reach 20 Box-Toppers points after earning American League Player of the Day honors. Cease maintains his third place spot in Box-Toppers season player rankings.
Player of the Day—Burnes struck out 14 over eight innings, allowing one run, three hits and no walks, in the 2-1 win over the Giants.
Burnes earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 13.4 for the season, 14th among all players and eighth among National League pitchers.
American League Player of the Day—White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease struck out nine over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks, in the 14-2 win over the Athletics.
Cease earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 20.4 for the season, maintaining third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings, behind Astros pitcher Justin Verlander (22.0) and Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani (21.0). Cease also ranks third among AL pitchers behind Verlander and Ohtani.
Cease becomes the third player this season to reach 20.0 Box-Toppers points. It is his first season with 20.0 points. His previous best season was 2021 with the White Sox, when he had 14.4 points, fifth among AL pitchers.
National League Batter of the Day—Alex Call of the Nationals hit a three-run homer, doubled and went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 11-6 win over the Cardinals.
This was Call’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Call made his Major League debut July 11 and was playing in his 27th career game.
American League Batter of the Day—Gary Sanchez of the Twins doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring once and driving in one run, in the 4-3 win over the Yankees.
Debut—Brewers pitcher Peter Strzelecki made his Box-Toppers debut Thursday with his first career Player of the Game honor.
Strzelecki (2IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K W in the 4-2 win over the Giants) made his Major League debut June 2 and was playing in his 19th career game.
