Also Sunday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earned Player of the Game honors—Mets pitcher Tylor Megill rises to second place and Ty France of the Mariners rises to fourth.

Player of the Day—Lauer struck out 13 over six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and one walk, in the 1-0 win over the Phillies. Lauer did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was in a scoreless tie when he exited.

Lauer earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and now ranks 33rd among all players, 18th among National League pitchers.

Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole is Sunday’s Box-Toppers AL Player of the Day.

American League Player of the Day—Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole struck out nine over 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk, in the 10-2 win over the Guardians.

Cole earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and ranks 50th in season player rankings, 18th among American League pitchers.

Cole has now earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons with his first Player of the Game honor of 2022. He earned his first points in 2013 with the Pirates and now has 124.6 career points, rising to 44th among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With his 1.7 points Sunday, he passes Gary Sheffield (124.1) on the “all-time” list and now trails 43rd-ranked player Mariano Rivera (126.4). National League Batter of the Day—Joc Pederson of the Giants hit two home runs and doubled, going 3-for-3, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 12-3 win over the Nationals.

Pederson earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season.

Byron Buxton of the Twins is Sunday’s Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Byron Buxton of the Twins hit two home runs, including a walk-off, three-run, 10th-inning, game-winning shot, in the 6-4, 10-inning win over the White Sox. Buxton went 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five runs.

This was the second straight day Buxton earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. He also did it Saturday (HR 2B 4-4 3R 2BI in the 9-2 win over the White Sox). He now has 2.5 Box-Toppers points for 2022, 18th among all players and fourth among AL batters.

Mets pitcher Tylor Megill is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Sunday’s win over the Diamondbacks.

Megill (6.2IP 5H 2R BB 7K W in the 6-2 win over the Diamondbacks) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 4.7 for the season, trailing leader Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (5.0). He rises to first place among NL pitchers, passing previous leader Joe Musgrove of the Padres (4.0).

Ty France of the Mariners is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Sunday’s win over the Royals.

Also Sunday, Ty France of the Mariners rises from eighth to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors (HR 3-5 R 2BI in the 5-4, 12-inning win over the Royals).

France earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 4.0 for the season. He ranks second among AL batters, behind Ohtani (5.0).
