Los Angeles Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 7th straight week

The Los Angeles Dodgers maintain their lead in Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report for the seventh straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2021 team rankings through games of Thursday, Sept. 9. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Sept. 3 to Sept. 9. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on Sept. 2.

Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox maintain the lead among American League teams and the Toronto Blue Jays are the week’s hottest team for the second week in a row.

Dodgers players have accumulated 123.5 Box-Toppers points in 2021, picking up 4.0 points in the past week. They lead the second-place overall team, the Milwaukee Brewers (111.8).

The Dodgers have baseball’s third-best winning percentage (.624) behind the San Francisco Giants (.643) and the Tampa Bay Rays (.629). The Giants are sixth in Box-Toppers team rankings (104.1 points) and the Rays are eighth (101.8). The Dodgers are 2 1/2 games behind the Giants in the National League West.

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Max Scherzer with 21.1 Box-Toppers points, second overall and first among National League pitchers. The Dodgers top batter is Max Muncy with 6.0 Box-Toppers points, 13th among NL batters. So far this season, 28 different players on the Dodgers roster have earned Player of the Game honors.

The Chicago White Sox lead among AL teams with 107.8 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week, maintaining their overall third-place ranking. This is the second straight week the White Sox have led AL teams. They have led AL teams for 17 of the past 19 weeks. The White Sox lead AL teams ahead of the second-place New York Yankees (104.6). The Yankees fell from fourth to fifth place overall this week after picking up just 1.0 point.

The White Sox have the third-best winning percentage among AL teams (.571), behind the Tampa Bay Rays (.629) and the Houston Astros (.583). The Rays are eighth in Box-Toppers team rankings (101.8 Box-Toppers points) and the Astros are 10th (99.0).

The White Sox are led by pitchers Lance Lynn and Dylan Cease, both with 10.7 Box-Toppers points. Lynn ranks eighth among AL pitchers and Cease ranks ninth. Top batter among the White Sox is Jose Abreu with 7.0 Box-Toppers points, fifth among AL batters. So far this season, 26 different players on the White Sox roster have earned Player of the Game honors.

The Toronto Blue Jays are the week’s hottest team for the second week in a row, gaining 8.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team, rising from 13th to 12th in team rankings with 98.3 points. The Blue Jays were also the hottest team last week, picking up 7.9 points during that week. The Blue Jays gained their 8.0 Box-Toppers points by picking up 1.0 points winning all seven games they played this week and earning an additional bonus point when pitcher Robbie Ray won Player of the Day honors on Sunday.

The Texas Rangers had the biggest climb in Box-Toppers team rankings, rising four spots from 29th to 25th place with 47.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.2 points in the past week.

The Arizona Diamondbacks had the biggest drop in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, falling three spots from 25th to 28th place with 46.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week.

The Chicago Cubs maintained 30th and last place this week with 44.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
