Chicago White Sox hold top spot in Box-Toppers team rankings for 4th week

The Chicago White Sox lead Box-Toppers team rankings for the fourth straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2021 team rankings, through the games of Thursday, June 24. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from June 18 to 24. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of June 17.

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers continue to lead National League teams for the third week and the Houston Astros are the week’s hottest team.

White Sox players have accumulated 57.5 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 1.0 point in the past week. Trailing them in second place both overall and among American League teams is the Tampa Bay Rays with 55.7 Box-Toppers points.

The White Sox have baseball’s fourth-best winning percentage (.595), behind the San Francisco Giants (.649), the Houston Astros (.627) and the Oakland Athletics (.597). The Giants are ninth in Box-Toppers team rankings (52.0 Box-Toppers points), the Astros are third (55.0) and the Athletics are sixth (53.3).

The White Sox are led by pitcher Lance Lynn with 7.7 Box-Toppers points, fifth among AL pitchers. White Sox top batter is Jose Abreu with 5.5 Box-Toppers points, third among AL batters. There are 20 White Sox players who have earned Player of the Game honors in the team’s 44 wins this season.

The Brewers lead NL teams for the third straight week with 54.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.0 points in the past week. The Brewers slip from third to fourth place in overall team rankings. Trailing them among NL teams is the San Diego Padres with 54.2 Box-Toppers points, in fifth place overall.

The Brewers are tied with the Chicago Cubs with the fourth-best winning percentage (.560) among NL teams, behind the Giants (.649), the Dodgers (.587) and the Padres (.584).

The Brewers are led by pitcher Brandon Woodruff  with 12.4 Box-Toppers points, who ranks fourth among all players and second among NL pitchers. Brewers top batter is Christian Yelich with 2.5 points, 22nd among NL batters. So far this season, 20 different Brewers players have earned Player of the Game honors in the team’s 42 wins.

The Houston Astros are the hottest team of the week, picking up 8.7 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team. The Astros won all seven games they played this week and are on an 11-game winning streak. The Astros now have 55.0 Box-Toppers points on the season, third overall. Their seven-spot rise in rankings from 10th to third place was the biggest jump among all teams this week.

The Philadelphia Phillies fell four spots in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, the biggest plummet among all teams. The Phillies fell from 14th to 18th place with 43.5 points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.

The Baltimore Orioles fall from 29th to 30th and last place in team rankings with 26.7 points, picking up 1.5 points in the past week. The Pittsburgh Pirates, the lowest-ranked team for the previous four weeks, rise to 28th place with 27.0 points, picking up 4.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
