Max Fried tops players as Braves win title over Astros in World Series Game 6

Braves pitcher Max Fried is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Tuesday’s World Series Game 6 win over the Astros.

Max Fried is Box-Toppers Player of the Game as the Atlanta Braves win the World Series title over the Houston Astros Tuesday.

The Braves beat the Astros 7-0 to win the best-of-seven game series, 4-2, their first World Series title since 1995.

Fried struck out six over six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks. He had a Box-Toppers game score Tuesday of +6.0, best among all Braves players.

Jorge Soler, who was named series Most Valuable Player, had the best Box-Toppers game score (+3.0) among Braves batters Tuesday (HR 1-3 2R 3BI). Soler was also Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Saturday’s World Series Game 4.

Astros starting pitcher Luis Garcia had a game score of -3.8 in the loss (2.2IP 2H 3R BB 3K L).

This was Fried’s second Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor of the 2021 postseason. He was also Player of the Game in the National League Division Series Game 2 win over the Brewers on Oct. 9. He started three other postseason games, including the World Series Game 2 loss to the Astros on Oct. 27 in which he gave up six runs (5IP 7H 6R BB 6K L).

Fried joins five other players who have earned two Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors this postseason. Jose Altuve of the Astros, Braves relief pitcher A.J. Minter, Braves starter Ian Anderson and Dodgers pitchers Julio Urias and Kenley Jansen have also won Player of the Game honors twice each this postseason.

Box-Toppers favored the Braves over the Astros in the World Series, despite the Astros winning more games during the regular season (95 vs. 88).

Both teams were among Box-Toppers’ lower-ranked postseason clubs. The Braves ranked fifth in Box-Toppers team rankings with its players accumulating 122.4 Box-Toppers points during the regular season. That was fourth among the five NL teams that qualified for the postseason. Among NL playoff teams, only the St. Louis Cardinals ranked lower, in 13th place with 105.4 points.

The Astros ranked 10th with 114.0 Box-Toppers points. They were the lowest ranked AL team that qualified for the postseason, finishing behind the eighth-ranked Toronto Blue Jays (116.0 points), who did not qualify for the playoffs.
