The Chicago Cubs lead Box-Toppers first weekly team rankings report of the 2020 season.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Twins are the top-ranked American League team and the Oakland Athletics are the hottest team of the past week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2020 season team rankings, through the games of Thursday, Aug. 6. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from July 31 to Aug. 6. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of July 30.

Cubs players have accumulated 14.6 Box-Toppers points through the games of Aug. 6, picking up 7.7 points in the past week. Their winning percentage of .769 is tied for second-best in baseball, behind the Miami Marlins (.857), though the Marlins—who were forced to the sidelines for a week with COVID-19 concerns—have only played seven games, while the Cubs have played 13. The Marlins rank 11th in Box-Toppers team rankings with 7.5 Box-Toppers points.

The Cubs also led team rankings after the season’s first week (as of July 31), though Box-Toppers didn’t post team rankings after only one week due to the small sample size.

The Cubs are led by pitcher Tyler Chatwood with 3.7 Box-Toppers points, who ranks third among all players in 2020 Box-Toppers points, first among National League players. Top batter is Javier Baez with 1.5 Box-Toppers points. Seven different Cubs players have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season.

The Twins lead AL teams with 12.7 Box-Toppers points, second overall. The Twins earned 7.2 points in the past week, rising from fifth place overall last week. The Twins are tied with the Cubs for second-best winning percentage (.769).

The Twins are led by right fielder Max Kepler with 3.5 Box-Toppers points, who ranks fourth among all players and first among AL batters. Top pitcher is Randy Dobnak (2.0 Box-Toppers points). Seven different Twins players have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season.

The Athletics are the hottest team of the week, earning 8.9 Box-Toppers points in the past week, rising from 15th place last week to third place overall this week with 11.9 points.

The Cardinals rank 30th and last in Box-Toppers team rankings with 2.0 Box-Toppers points, earning no points in the past week. The Cardinals  also had several games postponed after players tested positive for COVID-19.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
