Also Friday, Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg rises to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Pena allowed no hits over seven scoreless innings, striking out six and walking one, in the 13-0 win over the Mariners.

Pena relieved opener Taylor Cole (2IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K ND), pitching the final seven innings and picking up the win.

Pena earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.0 for the season, 88th among all players and 34th among American League pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish struck out eight over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 4-3 win over the Pirates. Darvish did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was in a scoreless tie when he exited.

National League Batter of the Day—Josh Donaldson of the Braves hit two home runs and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 5-3 win over the Padres.

American League Batter of the Day—Danny Santana of the Rangers homered and hit the game-winning single in the 9-8 win over the Astros. Santana went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs.

Rankings—Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg rises to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.

Strasburg (6IP 7H 0R BB 6K W in the 4-0 win over the Phillies) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 11.0 for the season, 10th among all players and sixth among NL pitchers. 

Strasburg also becomes the third Nationals pitcher among Box-Toppers’ top 10 players for the season, behind fourth-ranked Max Scherzer (14.4) and ninth-ranked Patrick Corbin (11.4). The three have a combined 36.8 Box-Toppers points, which is 55 percent of the team’s 66.7 points this season.

Strasburg also now has 123.1 career Box-Toppers points, 42nd among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. He trails 41st-ranked Gary Sheffield (124.1).
