Also Tuesday, three players in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 earned Player of the Game honors—Yankees pitcher Luis Severino, Mariners pitcher James Paxton and Astros pitcher Charlie Morton.

In addition, Box-Toppers points leader for 2018, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer, did not earn Player of the Game honors in an appearance in his team’s loss.

Player of the Day—Peralta struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk, in the 5-1 win over the Royals.

Peralta earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 23rd among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Astros pitcher Charlie Morton struck out 13 over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks, in the 7-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Morton earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 11.8 for the season, rising from eighth to sixth place in season player rankings, fifth among AL pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day—Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals hit two homers and went 5-for-5, scoring five times and driving in three runs, in the 11-2 win over the Indians.

American League Batter of the Day—Jackie Bradley Jr. of the Red Sox homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 9-1 win over the Angels.

Rankings—Box-Toppers points leader for 2018, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer, did not earn Player of the Game honors Tuesday in his team’s 1-0 loss to the Rays.

Scherzer (7IP 4H R 3BB 4K L) had a Box-Toppers game score of +2.0, best among Nationals players Tuesday, but since it came in a loss, did not earn Box-Toppers points. Player of the Game was Rays pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (6IP H 0R 2BB 9K W), who had a Box-Toppers game score of +12.0. He earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 2.0 for the season.

Scherzer has 16.4 Box-Toppers points in 2018 to lead all players.

In addition to Astros pitcher Charlie Morton, two other players in Box-Toppers season player rankings earned Player of the Game honors Tuesday:

  • Yankees pitcher Luis Severino (7IP 6H 0R 0BB 9K W in the 6-0 win over the Phillies) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 15.7 for the season. He maintains his second-place rank among all players, moving to within 0.7 points of leader Scherzer. Severino extends his lead among AL pitchers, ahead of second-place Jose Berrios of the Twins (13.4).
  • Mariners pitcher James Paxton (7IP 6H 2R BB 10K W in the 3-2 win over the Orioles) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.0 for the season, rising from fifth to fourth in season player rankings. He ranks third among AL pitchers.

Scoring—Peralta earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Morton earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day. Carpenter and Bradley each earn 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day. All of Tuesday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
