Walker Buehler tops players in NLCS Game 7 as Dodgers eliminate Brewers

Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler is Box-Toppers Player of the Game Saturday as Los Angeles eliminates the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series.

NLCS Game 7: Dodgers 5, Brewers 1

Buehler struck out seven over 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run, six hits and no walks, as the Dodgers win the best-of-seven game series, 4-3, and advance to the World Series.

Buehler did not earn the win, picking up a no decision, because he did not pitch the required five innings for the starter to earn the win. However, he did pitch at least three innings, which qualified him to be in the running for Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors.

Buehler had 15.1 Box-Toppers points in the regular season, 15th among all players, fifth among NL pitchers. He had not earned Player of the Game honors in either of his previous two postseason appearances, however, he was Player of the Game in the extra Oct. 1 NL West tiebreaker game against the Colorado Rockies.

Buehler had a Box-Toppers game score Saturday of +3.2. Dodgers reliever Kenley Jansen actually had a higher Box-Toppers game score of +4.1, but did not qualify to earn Player of the Game honors because he pitched fewer than three innings and did not earn the win or save (1.1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K ND).

Yasiel Puig had the highest Box-Toppers game score (+3.0) among Dodgers batters (HR 2B 3-4 R 3BI). Clayton Kershaw, normally a starter, came in to close the game for the Dodgers and had a Box-Toppers game score of +3.0 (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K ND). Reliever Ryan Madson, who was awarded the win, had a Box-Toppers game score of +2.2 (1.2IP H 0R 0BB 2K).

Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin had a Box-Toppers game score of -6.0 (2IP 3H 2R BB 0K L). Brewers reliever Josh Hader actually had the highest Box-Toppers game score (+5.0) among all players in the game (3IP H 0R BB 4K ND). Brewers reliever Brandon Woodruff had a Box-Toppers game score of +4.0 (2IP 2H 0R BB 5K ND).

The Brewers ranked higher in Box-Toppers team rankings for 2018, in third place, highest among NL teams, with 132.4 accumulated Box-Toppers points. The Dodgers ranked sixth, second among NL teams, with 128.0 points.

The Dodgers now face the American League champion Boston Red Sox in the World Series beginning Tuesday in Boston.
