Dodgers continue lead in Box-Toppers team rankings for 7th straight week

The Los Angeles Dodgers top Box-Toppers team rankings for the seventh straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers' top 10 team rankings, through the games of Thursday, Aug. 10. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team have accumulated so far this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Aug. 4 to Aug. 10. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of Aug. 3.

Meanwhile, the Houston Astros maintain their lead in Box-Toppers rankings among American League teams for the 12th straight week and the Cleveland Indians picked up the most Box-Toppers points this week, after acquiring Jay Bruce from the New York Mets.

Dodgers players have accumulated 109.5 Box-Toppers points so far this season, including 7.0 since last week. The Dodgers also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.711).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Clayton Kershaw (22.1 Box-Toppers points), who also leads all players in season player rankings. Kershaw, however, is on the disabled list and is not expected to return until at least late August. Dodgers’ top batter is Cody Bellinger (7.7), who ranks fifth among NL batters in Box-Toppers points. Twenty-one different Dodgers players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors so far this season.

The Dodgers lead the second-ranked Washington Nationals. The Nationals have 100.3 Box-Toppers points, 9.2 points behind the Dodgers, and earned 6.2 points this past week.

The Astros lead AL teams for the 12th straight week. With 85.4 Box-Toppers points, including 2.7 in the past week, they maintain their overall third-place rank. The have baseball’s second-best winning percentage (.623).

The Astros are led by pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. (9.4 Box-Toppers points), who ranks seventh among AL pitchers. McCullers has been on the disabled list with lower back discomfort and currently has no timetable to return. Top batter is Josh Reddick (7.0 points), who ranks eighth among AL batters. Twenty-five different Astros players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

The Cleveland Indians gained 10.0 Box-Toppers points, most of any team, thanks to the acquisition of Jay Bruce and his 8.0 Box-Toppers points from the New York Mets. The Indians now have 84.5 Box-Toppers points, rising from 10th to fourth in team rankings—the biggest placement gain of any team. However, the Indians have lost seven of their last 10 games.

The Seattle Mariners rise to 10th place from 11th place in team rankings with 79.1 Box-Toppers points, gaining 8.0 points in the past week. Part of that gain came when they acquired Yonder Alonso and his 4.0 Box-Toppers points from the Oakland Athletics.

With the Mariners moving to 10th place, the Colorado Rockies move out of the top 10, falling from ninth to 11th place. The Rockies have 78.9 Box-Toppers points and gained 3.5 points in the past week.

The New York Mets had the biggest points and placement drop in the past week, losing a net of 5.0 Box-Toppers points and dropping seven places from 17th to 24th place. The Mets now have 54.8 Box-Toppers points after dealing Bruce and his 8.0 Box-Toppers points to the Indians.

The Chicago White Sox are the lowest-ranked team for the fourth straight week. The White Sox have 27.9 Box-Toppers points. However, they snap a three-week streak in which they lost net Box-Toppers points each week after trading away players. This week, they gained 3.5 Box-Toppers points.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
