David Price is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in 2015 All-Star Game

Rays pitcher David Price is Box-Toppers All-Star Player of the Game.

Price pitched the fourth inning and was the pitcher of record as the American League took the lead, picking up the win in Tuesday’s 6-3 win over the National League.

Price allowed no runs or hits in his single inning, picking up a Box-Toppers game score of 3.0, highest among all players on the winning American League team.

Had he not earned the win or the save, he would not have had the required three innings to otherwise earn Player of the Game honors. In that case, Player of the Game would have gone to Prince Fielder of the Rangers (1-1 2BI), who had a Box-Toppers game score of 2.0.

Mike Trout of the Angels was named All-Star Most Valuable Player (HR 1-3 R BI). Trout had a Box-Toppers game score of 1.0, sixth-highest among AL players. Trout leads AL batters in Box-Toppers points so far this season (9.0).

Price has 13.1 Box-Toppers points this season, ranked fifth among all players, third among AL pitchers. His best season was 2014 with the Tigers, when he had 19.1 Box-Toppers points, seventh among all players and fourth among AL pitchers. He has earned 85.8 career Box-Toppers points over seven seasons and ranks 103rd among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers record keeping began.

Overall Box-Toppers points leader, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer (15.0), did not pitch in the All-Star Game Tuesday because he started Sunday. Overall AL Box-Toppers points leader, Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez (14.4), had a Box-Toppers game score Tuesday of 2.0 (1IP 0H 0R K ND). Todd Frazier of the Reds, leader in Box-Toppers points among NL batters (7.2), had a Box-Toppers game score of −3.0 for the losing NL team (0-3).

Scoring—Just as All-Star Game statistics don’t count in a player’s regular season statistics, no Box-Toppers points are awarded for the All-Star Game.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
