Marlins' Henderson Alvarez (CG 0R 2H) tops players for Saturday, April 19; Braun rises to 2nd in Box-Toppers points

Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez is Saturday’s Player of the Day. Alvarez pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout in the 7-0 win over the Mariners.

Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer is American League Player of the Day. Scherzer struck out nine over seven innings, allowing only one run, in the 5-2 win over the Angels.

Ryan Hanigan of the Rays is AL Batter of the Day. Hanigan hit two homers while going 3-for-4 and driving in six in the 16-1 win over the Yankees.

Ryan Braun of the Brewers is National League Batter of the Day. Braun hit two home runs—including a go-ahead, ninth-inning, two-run homer—and went 3-for-5 in the 8-7 win over the Pirates. Braun rises to second place in Box-Toppers player rankings for the season. He earned 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 4.5 for the season.
