Also Sunday, Rays pitcher Charlie Morton rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Corbin struck out 11 over seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and no walks, in the 5-2 win over the Royals. Corbin did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Royals tied the game, 2-2, after he exited.

Corbin earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 11.4 for the season, rising to ninth place in season player rankings, fifth among National League pitchers.

Corbin is the 13th player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his third season (and second straight season) with 10 or more points. In 2013, he had 17.4 Box-Toppers points with the Diamondbacks, sixth among all players and in 2018, he had 16.0 points with the Diamondbacks, fourth among NL pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Blue Jays pitcher Trent Thornton struck out five over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, in the 6-1 win over the Orioles.

National League Batter of the Day—Jay Bruce of the Phillies hit two home runs and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 8-3 win over the Mets.

American League Batter of the Day—Yuli Gurriel of the Astros hit a grand slam and went 2-for-4, scoring three times and driving in four runs, in the 11-10, 10-inning win over the Angels.

Rankings—Rays pitcher Charlie Morton rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.

Morton (5.2IP 5H R BB 10K W in the 2-1 win over the Yankees) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 14.8 for the season. While he now has the same Box-Toppers point total as overall leader, Astros pitcher Justin Verlander (14.8), Verlander holds the tiebreaking edge and ranks ahead because he has more 2018 Box-Toppers points—24.1 vs. 14.8. Verlander has led all players in Box-Toppers points since May 10. Morton also ranks second among AL pitchers, behind Verlander.

Morton has matched his 2018 Box-Toppers point total with the Astros, which had been his best season to date. He ranked 11th among AL pitchers in 2018.

Also notable—Red Sox pitcher David Price now has 131.0 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.

Price (5IP 4H R 2BB 6K W in the 6-3 win over the Tigers) ranks 33rd among active players in career points since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. He trails 32nd-ranked player Jason Giambi (133.4). Price ranks 12th among active players in career points

Debut—Rangers pitcher Joe Palumbo made his Box-Toppers debut Sunday with his first career Player of the Game honor.
